The Passerelle Sociale is a pedestrian and cycling bridge connecting Görlitz and Zgorzelec approximately 200 metres south of the existing railway viaduct. Rather than competing with the monumental structure, the design adopts a quiet and restrained architectural language, emphasising lightness and a close relationship with the surrounding landscape.

The bridge follows the natural course of the River Neisse in a gently angled three span structure. Its geometry responds to the existing islands and minimises intervention within the sensitive river environment. Constructed from weathering Corten steel with a larch timber deck, the materials are intended to age naturally, allowing the bridge to gradually blend into its surroundings.

Rather than becoming a landmark, the bridge is conceived as an extension of the landscape, a path that feels naturally placed across the river. A small bivouac area on the Polish riverbank offers simple shelters for cyclists and hikers, creating a quiet place for rest close to the city while remaining immersed in nature.

The project strengthens the connection between Görlitz and Zgorzelec while respecting the ecological and atmospheric qualities of the Neisse valley. It follows the landscape instead of dominating it, creating a subtle connection between the two cities.
